Barnwell has a lot of spirit all year, but this photograph, taken in December 2010, captures City Hall decked out in the holiday spirit.

Barnwell was established in 1800 as the seat of government for Barnwell County, but the fledgling town was burned to the ground by Union troops during the Civil War. Between 1869 and 1873, court proceedings had to be held in Blackville while Barnwell restored itself and rebuilt government buildings.
Today, Barnewell’s downtown is a mix of historic landmarks such the the old Barnwell County Courthouse and newer shops, offices, and buildings such as City Hall.
