Manuel’s Grocery – Allendale County, South Carolina
South Carolina | SC Picture Project | Allendale County Photos | Manuel’s Grocery
For many years, Manuel’s “Grocery & Barber Shop” was the hub of a small agricultural community located in Allendale County near the railroad along SC 125 on Galilee Road.

Lamar Nix of Seabrook, who took this beautiful photo, has this to say about the old store, which closed down some time back: “Today it is a pleasing landmark to passersby on the ‘Atomic Road’ (SR 125) between Allendale and Beech Island, punctuated by pretty wildflowers in the springtime. Maybe there will be a place again in commerce for this country store; at least we hope that it will not crumble from neglect and be lost to history.”

Love this section of photos. We always travel across rural roads in SC from Augusta to Walterboro to Beaufort each year. Seeing these photos makes me realize we need to take more time to stop and really see the scenery.
