Donalds Train Station – Donalds, South Carolina
South Carolina | SC Picture Project | Abbeville County Photos | Donalds Train Station
This train depot in Donalds served the Piedmont and Northern railroad, which began in nearby Greenwood in 1911. The electric rail system connected with an electric trolley in Anderson and then traveled as far as Greenville and Spartanburg. The rail line finally reached Spartanburg in 1914. World War I interfered with further construction on the line. Today the depot in Donalds is used for storage by local Log Cabin Antiques.
Many thanks to Bill Fitzpatrick of Taylors for sharing this shot. Bill enjoys the singular distinction of being the only person ever to have visited all 1,400 of South Carolina’s National Historic Landmarks. He has published several helpful e-books which serve as invaluable travel guides to the Palmetto State.
