This picture of an old tobacco curing barn was photographed by Robert B. Davis in September 2006 near Timmonsville.
Robert describes his photo for us: "This tobacco barn is a disappearing structure being replaced by movable metal buildings. Tobacco was once the main crop of the Pee Dee area, but is now being replaced by cotton. This is still a functioning barn and can be seen on Hill Road, near Timmonsville."
The South Carolina Encyclopedia has an informative article on tobacco barns in the Pee Dee region.
