This barn in Mars Bluff, near Florence, is located behind "The Columns" – an affectionate nickname for the Harwell House at Rankin Plantation. The house received its moniker in honor of the 22 giant Doric columns which support it. It is also known as Carolina Hall.

He describes the scene as follows: "The Mars Bluff barn is located behind The Columns, a Civil War-era mansion, where the 'Skirmish at Gambles Hotel' is re-enacted every year in March. The Florence Quilters Guild puts on a fine display of hand- and machine-made quilts along with many vendors."
