Nikki Smith of Orangeburg took this photo of a rural sunset in St Matthews in December 2008.
She writes: "I grew up in Calhoun County and I visit there a lot because my parents still live there. I absolutely love catching photos of the sunset, but I can't see it from where I live. My view is obstructed by large trees and houses. I knew I could find plenty of opportunities to capture it in St. Matthews because of all the beautiful open fields. My dad offered to take my kids and me on an excursion through the countryside to find that 'perfect' shot. When we happened upon this farm I completely forgot about the sunset! The view of the green grass meeting the array of colors in the sky just captivated me! To me, this photo captures all that I loved about growing up in 'the country.' St Matthews is a perfect place to encounter southern charm and beautiful scenery."
