Johns Island, South Carolina – Stono River Sailboat

This photo of a sailboat hard aground in the Stono River was taken by William C. Smith of Charleston in July 2007.

William writes: "This is a morning view of an abandoned sailboat aground on oyster beds in the Stono River. This boat is part of a growing problem along the coast. Moored boats sink at their mooring or drag anchor and end up like the pictured boat. They can be a serious danger to navigation and a possible source of pollution."
