West Ashley, South Carolina – River Otter

This River Otter posed for the picture at Charles Towne Landing, near Charleston. The shot was taken by Rodger Painter of Gaffney in June 2007.

Rodger describes the scene: "A river otter basks on a tree stump following a refreshing dip in a pool at Charles Towne Landing. A resident of the zoo at the State Historic Site, the otter is one of many native South Carolina animal species which might have greeted early European settlers in 1670 Charleston."
