Charleston, South Carolina – Arthur Ravenel Bridge
|
The Arthur Ravenel bridge backdrops a cross at Magnolia Cemetary. The photo was taken by Julie G. Rowe of Charleston in the fall of 2006.
Julie writes: "This shot was taken from Magnolia Cemetery in fall 2006. I liked the contrast of the new bridge and the old grave marker. The old bridge was gone and the new one had risen. I wonder how many more bridges this marker will have as its backdrop. The anchor/cross with the harbor and bridge behind it, also struck me as symbolic."
"Old cemeteries have always fascinated me. My thoughts always turn to life while walking through them, the lives of those buried there, as well as my own. An old epitaph found in very old cemeteries is 'As you are now, so once was I. As I am now, so you must be. So prepare for death and follow me.' It is a favorite of mine and reminds me life is short so I had better get to living it."
Julie is a professional photographer with a keen eye for capturing great scenes on film. You can discover more of her vibrant photos at Julie G. Rowe Photography.
