Pawleys Island, South Carolina – Beach Dunes
|
This picture of the dunes at Pawleys Island was photographed by Robert B. Davis in February 2007.
Robert describes the photo for us: "This was taken a few yards from the nesting site of a
loggerhead turtle nest. The loggerheads use the north and south ends of the island where they dig nests and lay many eggs during warm summer nights. The broken down fences are a typical sight along South Carolina beaches and are a method of dune protection. When we destroy the dunes we make our beaches subject to erosion."
