Palmetto Bluff, South Carolina – Bending Nature into Art
|
This photo of a hut made of bent twigs, and branches was taken by Mike Stroud of Bluffton in September 2007. Patrick Dougherty is the artist.
Mike writes: "Having heard about the sticks and twigs being shaped into a sculpture, over at Palmetto Bluff, I was surprised to find this life-sized hut made more from branches and vines, than simple twigs. Standing easily at 20 feet tall, among the trees, the weaving and intermingling of saplings was truly bending nature into art. There was a wedding reception on the lawn nearby, and you can bet that many photos were taken with the artwork. The artist, Patrick Dougherty's 'abstract sculptures are intended to respect nature and add to the natural surroundings.'"
