Four lines are tied low on the trunks of healthy live oaks on the surrounding shore – two to the north and two to the south. A fifth, less important bow line is tied to the head of our wharf, which could itself be destroyed by a storm surge. The four shore lines are 5/8-inch double-braided nylon ... stronger than we use during normal weather.
