The current lighthouse started service in 1875, after the original lighthouse, built in 1859, was burned during the Civil War. It is the only lighthouse in South Carolina where the general public can climb to the top.
The Hunting Island Light is located in Hunting Island State Park, which is in Beaufort County, 18 miles from the city of Beaufort on US 21. To learn more, visit SCIway's guide to Hunting Island State Park.
