This photo was taken by Julie G. Rowe of Charleston in the fall of 2006.
She writes: "I liked the contrast of the new bridge and the old grave marker. The old bridge was gone and the new one had risen. The anchor/cross with the harbor and bridge behind it struck me as symbolic."
"Old cemeteries have always fascinated me. My thoughts always turn to life while walking through them, the lives of those buried there, as well as my own. An old epitaph found in very old cemeteries is 'As you are now, so once was I. As I am now, so you must be. So prepare for death and follow me.' It is a favorite of mine and reminds me life is short so I had better get to living it."
