Hillary Winburn of Conway submitted this shot of her town's clock and city hall to our SC Town Clock Gallery. It was taken in November 2007.
The clock tower was designed by W.H. Winborne, master cabinetmaker of Conway. The purchase was authorized by Town Council on July 11, 1939 and was built over a three month period. The tower was constructed of local black jack cypress purchased from the Conway Lumber Company. The Seth Thomas works cost $750.00 and were installed just before Thankgiving 1939. There are no records of a dedication ceremony. (Source: The Indendent Rebublic Quarterly, VOl 13, 1979. Pg 25)
