An early moon rises over one of the many cannons in White Point Gardens. The photo was taken by Michael Beard of Greenwood in April 2005. White Point Gardens is the park at the tip of the Charleston peninsula in the area known as The Battery.
Michael writes: "During an evening stroll through the historic Battery in Charleston I came upon this beautiful view of the moon. I stepped behind the cannon to give the photograph a foreground subject. The sky was filled with an array of soft colors that added to the mood. The almost full moon seemed to fly right out of the old cannon. My wife and I try to visit Charleston every spring. It is a beautiful city filled with amazing architecture, and a wonderful family vacation spot."
