Cypress knees, which are root projections of the Bald Cypress tree, are prevalent in the upper reaches of the ACE Basin. While they tolerate a slight salinity, they do better in the slow-moving "brownwater" rivers and swamps that characterize the ACE Basin waterways unaffected by tides.
