ACE Basin, South Carolina – Tagging & Measuring Blue Crabs
|
The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources plays a crucial role in the conservation and preservation of our state's natural resources and beauty.
The following photos were taken by Barry Gooch, who is Field Coordinator for the Cooperative Research Program run by DNR. They show how blue crabs in the ACE Basin are being tagged and measured to monitor their population. We are grateful to both Barry and SC DNR for allowing us to share these photos with you.
Keeping an eye on the blue crab population ensures that future generations of South Carolina fishermen and residents will be able to make a living and enjoy fresh local seafood on their plates.
