Turbeville Hotels: A Local's Guide
Turbeville is located in the northeastern tip of Clarendon County at the intersection of US 301 and US 378.In the 1870s, William Turbeville and his brother, Clem, bought most of the land that would become the town of Turbeville. The brothers operated a store, and since large pine trees were so plentiful, they also built and operated a turpentine still. During these years, the community was known as "Puddin' Swamp."
Today, the community honors its past by hosting the Puddin' Swamp Festival every April.
Manning is the largest town in Turbeville's own Clarendon County, but Sumter – 20 miles west across the county line on US 378 – is subtantially larger.
