Ridgeland Hotels: A Local's Guide
Ridgeland, known as the "High Point of the Lowcountry," is located on I-95 about 30 miles west of Beaufort and 30 miles north of Bluffton. The town was originally called Gopher Hill due to the abundance of gopher tortoises in the area – make sure to get a picture with the huge tortoise statue at the center of Gopher Hill Square!Downtown Ridgeland is home to a variety of small shops and restaurants, but the best way to get a taste of local flavor is by visiting the Jasper County Farmer's Market on Third Avenue. Ridgeland also boasts a number of great parks, including the Blue Heron Nature Center, which features a half-mile nature trail, butterfly gardens, picnic areas, and several discovery centers.
If you're visiting Ridgeland in October, try to plan your trip around the annual Gopher Hill Festival, which features arts and crafts, live music, a parade, and a turtle race!
