Lake City Hotels: A Local's Guide
Lake City is located in the Pee Dee region of South Carolina, just 24 miles south of Florence and 35 miles east of Sumter. Oddly enough, there are no major lakes in or around Lake City – the name actually refers to several popular fishing and swimming holes just north of the city.Downtown Lake City boasts a large historic district, as well as several parks and a few small shopping centers. You can also visit the recently renovated National Bean Market Museum, which offers exhibits and displays depicting early farm life in the Pee Dee region. The museum is located at 111 Henry Street in what was once the largest green bean market in the world!
If you're visiting Lake City in September, make sure to check out the annual Palmetto Outdoor Sports Festival (formerly the South Carolina Tobacco Festival), which features live music and a variety of different sporting events.
