Cheraw Hotels: A Local's Guide
Cheraw, also known as "The Prettiest Town In Dixie," is located in northeastern South Carolina along the banks of the Great Pee Dee River. It's about 15 miles from Bennettsville and just 8.5 miles from the North Carolina border. Cheraw is the hometown of jazz legend Dizzie Gillespie and hosts the annual South Carolina Jazz Festival in October.As one of South Carolina's oldest inland towns, Cheraw is steeped in Southern history. The Cheraw Historic District encompasses 35 blocks in the heart of downtown Cheraw and includes more than 50 antebellum buildings as well as numerous buildings from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The downtown area also boasts a theatre, a museum, and many great shops and restaurants.
There are also many parks in an around Cheraw, including the Cheraw State Park located just south of the city. The park surrounds beautiful Lake Juniper and offers camping areas, hiking trails, and even a championship golf course!
