Stateburg, South Carolina
South Carolina Sumter County Stateburg
Stateburg is located in Sumter County east of the City of Sumter on US 378.
In the 1780s, when the Legislature decided to move the state capital from Charleston to the central part of the state, Stateburg lost by only a few votes to a place called Granby's Ferry on the Congaree River. Granby's Ferry soon became Columbia, which is still the capital.
Here is a map of the Sumter area.
