Parksville, South CarolinaSouth Carolina Parksville is located in McCormick County on the shore of J. Strom Thurmund Lake and just south of the City of McCormick. Though a community had been there for several years, it became known as Parks' Store in the early 1800s when a Richard Parks moved there and opened a general store. He became a proponent of the railroads and worked closely with the railroad company to convince them to bring their route through his community. Though he did not live to see this happen, he felt so optimistic that it would, he left land to the company in his will for a depot. After the new train depot was completed in 1884, the town filed papers of incorporation under the name of Parksville in his honor. Here is a map of the McCormick area.
