South Carolina Kershaw County Bethune
Bethune is located in eastern Kershaw County
, about 20 miles north of Camden
. When Europeans came to this area in the early 1800s, it was inhabited by Kadapaw Indians.
Bethune was originally called Lynchwood, and a post office was established there in 1828. However, when the railroad came to Lynchwood, the right-of-way passed though the property of Daniel Murdock Bethune and when the town was chartered in 1900, its name was changed from Lynchwood to Bethune.
