South Carolina Beach Weddings

Beach weddings are popular in SC in the spring, summer, and fall, and offer an alternative to more traditional weddings. Many couples choose beaches such as Sullivan's Island, Myrtle Beach, Folly Beach, and Kiawah Island. Keep in mind restrictions set by the beaches such as those on parking, alcohol, and fireworks. Also be sure to consult tide charts when planning – a really high tide could leave little room for guests!

  • Edisto Beach weddings - includes info on ministers, notaries, and other local wedding resources

  • Folly Beach weddings - public beach in Charleston County
Due to beach erosion, park is closed with hopes of reopening Summer 2013
No cost to use the beach, although if more than 25 people will be present, you must obtain a permit from the Folly Beach Public Safety Office. Folly's municipal clerk can serve as an officiant if desired. The Pelican Watch Shelter is a Charleston County Park facility on the southwest end of the beach which can accommodate up to 200 guests. It allows for a beach wedding with more parking and a shelter for the reception.

  • Myrtle Beach weddings - this link leads to answers of FAQ's for the City of Myrtle Beach, including those on having a beach weddding - Commercially produced weddings are not allowed on the beach, but non-commercial weddings are allowed on the public beaches. Non commercial weddings are those with simple ceremonies with no structures, no wedding planners, and no one making a profit. A minister, justice of the peace, or friend may perform the ceremony for a small gratuity.
